I’ve temporarily named my “buy local” experiment Freslocal—not sure if it captures what I’m going for, but it’s good enough to get me going. Day 1 wasn’t what I had hoped it to be, but then it again, it was New Year’s day. I’m over it.
Over the month I hope to not only buy local, but to try local; to open myself up to new experiences. If you know me, then you know many of those will be food-related. Today’s experience: Charlotte’s Bakery (which I’ve now reviewed on TasteFresno).
Kiel (he’s the one in the video) introduced me to one of the brothers that helps run the bakery, but they were too busy to stop for an interview, so I’m hoping to go back next week. Oh, darn. I’d hate to be exposed to another piece of chocolate croissant bread pudding…
After lunch, I set up office in the back room of Revue, which Travis Sheridan describes as a great third space. Caffeine, cool people, ambiance and wifi—what more can I ask for? A lot, actually, but more on that another time.
While I was hanging out in Tower, Kim was volunteering at the Selma Animal Shelter. She stopped by G&R Feed on her way home to pick up treats for our dogs—$1 a pound seems like a good deal. G&R is also where we buy our dog food.
Got an idea of something local I should try? Leave it in the comments!
